The Three Pillars of Circle K
  Service

The first pillar of Circle K is service. At Virginia Tech, we divide our service projects into four categories: youth, community, campus, and elderly. A Project Category Chair is assigned to each category. These people oversee all projects in their category and report their status to the Projects Vice President.

Here at Virginia Tech, we have several on-going projects. See the back of this booklet for information on all of our projects!

For each hour of service performed, a member receives a service hour. A service hour is defined as a full hour of service including travel time to and from the project. Service hours are given out in quarters. So if you attend a project that lasts one hour and 15 minutes, and it takes 15 minutes to drive to the site, then you get a total of 1.75 service hours (1.25 for service, and 0.5 for travel there and back).
Members receive a colored pinback to wear behind their membership pin, which designates the number of service hours the member has completed.

  • White represents 20 hours
  • Yellow/White 250 hours
  • Yellow 50 hours
  • Red/White 350 hours
  • Green 85 hours
  • Green/Yellow 500 hours
  • Red 125 hours
  • Red/Yellow 750 hours
  • Blue 175 hours
  • Blue/Yellow 1000 hours
  Leadership

The second pillar of Circle K is leadership. There are several ways for Circle K members to exhibit leadership. The best way to do this is to lead by example. Become active in the club by attending events, chairing projects, and joining committees.

Be sure to look in the member handbook for information on how to chair a project. A list and description of all of our club's committees are included as well. There is also a list of all the club, district, and International Leadership positions that you can serve.

  Fellowship

The third pillar of Circle K is Fellowship. We believe that members have joined Circle K not only to do service, but also to meet other service-minded people. Our club has several opportunities for fellowship.

We hold frequent socials. At the beginning and end of the school year we also have a picnic at the Duckpond. We attend various school held events like Winterfest. We also travel to Homeplace at least once a semester for yummy food and great bonding.

Another social activity that our club has is intramural sports. Our club has three different sports teams: volleyball or football in the fall, inner-tube water polo in the winter, and dogdeball in the spring. Playing on one of our sports teams is a great way to meet members and have a good time.
