Club Officers 2010-2011

President Christopher Rodgers

The President is in charge of the overall running of the club. This means scheduling regular club and officer meetings and preparing agenda's for those meetings. The president maintains contact with the Valley LTG to let him/her know what the club is doing, find out about district and international events/policies, and to ask for help with problems. The president is the main contact between the club, the campus and the community.

  5. Other clubs you participate in or activities you enjoy: Newman Community, Knights of Columbus, Campus Scouts of Virginia Tech.
  6. Favorite Song: It all depends on what mood I'm in (or want to be in).
  7. Favorite CKI project and why: K-Kids. I really enjoyed coordinating the program last year and teaching the kids about service. It made me feel a little younger inside.
  8. Three random facts about you: I have an extensive collection of hats; I enjoy photography but don't have a nice camera of my own so I really go crazy when I have the opportunity to use one; when I hide Easter eggs I do it with style.
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Anywhere I could see great architecture, be inspired by a landscape, or help a good cause.
  10. A few words of wisdom/advice/ anything you’d like to tell new members: You don't have to spend a lot of time doing Circle K stuff, but the more you put in the more you will get out.
Membership VP Linda Nguyen

The Membership Vice President is responsible for conducting new member drives each semester, and educating new members about CKI. The Membership VP holds CKI information sessions, designs flyers and answers questions about CKI. The Membership VP also plans icebreakers and helps organize socials. The Membership Vice President also oversees the club's intramural sports and the club scrapbook.

  5. Other clubs you participate in or activities you enjoy: Hiking, YMCA, soccer, watching documentaries, baking sweet things

  7. Favorite CKI project and why: Habitat for Humanity because I love projects where you can interact with hard core volunteers and the people you are actually helping.
  8. Three random facts about you: I love to sing and make music, though not well.
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Anywhere the Peace Corps would send me.
  10. A few Words of wisdom/ advice/ anything you'd like to tell new members: Sign up for projects! You meet amazing people. Also, don't be scared about talking to people at meetings!

The Service Vice President is responsible for organizing projects, giving information to project chairs, and acting as a liaison between community organizations and the club. The Service VP keeps track of all the members' service hours, awards pin backs, and reports service hours to the Secretary. The Service VP must communicate with the project category chairs and project chairs.

  7. Favorite CKI project and why: Pulaski Playground Project because it is a big deal.
  8. Three random facts about you: I have hiked an active volcano, Lost is my absolute favorite TV show, and green is the best color ever.
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Anywhere I could go because I would love to see the world!
  10. A few Words of wisdom/ advice/ any-thing you'd like to tell new members: Become a project chair! It's easy, gets you even more involved, and gives you some leadership experience (plus it makes my job easier!)!

The K-Family Vice President is the contact between the board of officers and the James Reed Scholarship Committee. This person communicates with local K-Family counterparts on meetings, induction ceremonies, projects and events. They are the club contact with K-Family counterparts and are in charge of organizing all K-Family events.

  8. Three random facts about you: I've wanted to go to medical school my whole life, I LOVE pandas, and I'm obsessed with LOST!
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Spain because I have always wanted to go there since I read For Whom the Bell Tolls
  10. Anything you'd like to tell new members: Have fun and meet new people by going to projects. The big projects on the weekends are the most fun!
Treasurer Stephen Miller

The Treasurer keeps all of the clubs accounts, an inventory list oversees fundraising and creates a club budget. The Treasurer collects all dues, and other income, then pays dues to the district, international and pays all the club's other bills. The Treasurer also creates a club budget for operating purposes, and submits a separate budget to the SGA, then submits expense forms to SGA.

  7. Favorite CKI project and why: Habitat for Humanity because I love to build and help clean things up.
  8. Three random facts about you: I used to play the trombone, I love playing sports, and was in NJROTC in high school.
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Scotland, the land of my ancestors.
  10. A few Words of wisdom/ advice/ anything you'd like to tell new members. There are many different service projects in this club, so if you are interested in any, go for it and meet new friends. This club is all about meeting new friends and doing service to our community. Have fun!
Secretary Mauricio Castro

The Secretary is responsible for keeping all of the clubs records, taking minutes of all meetings, and keeping an up to date list of members. The Secretary completes a monthly report of projects and hours, which is submitted to the Valley LTG, the District Secretary, and the club's Kiwanis Advisor. The Secretary also creates a phone list of all members and keeps track of all the members' birthdays.

  7. Favorite CKI project and why: Price's Fork Homework Help Club because we get to talk with elementary school students about everything while helping them with their homework!.
  8. Three random facts about you: 1) I have been playing the guitar since 2005. 2) I love reading up on the latest technology news. 3) I speak Spanish. Really!
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Probably Switzerland because of how amazing the landscape there is.
  10. A few words of wisdom/advice/ anything you’d like to tell new members: You can make a big impact in the club in a relatively short time. Jump right in and help out on projects, or even chair your own project!
Editor Amy Bumbaco

The Editor is responsible for sending out all club correspondence, creating a newsletter at least 4 times each year, and organizing Inductions. The Editor asks club members for submissions to create a club newsletter. The Editor also works with the Membership VP and the rest of the board to plan and carry out the Induction Ceremony each semester.

  7. Favorite CKI project and why: Animal Shelter because I love working with the pets and its where I got my dog from. My second favorite would be the easter egg hut because the kids are so cute!
  8. Three random facts about you: 1) I got my dog from the animal shelter we do projects with 2) During the summer of 2010, I will be on Long Island for a research position at a national lab. 3) I'm deathly afraid of thunderstorms and won't carry an umbrella because I think it is a lightning rod.
  9. If you could travel to any country, where would you go and why? Germany because i am over half german and I love the culture and language.
  10. A few words of wisdom/advice/ anything you’d like to tell new members: Have fun and meet new people by going to projects. The big projects on the weekends are the most fun!
